    1. If it were possible to give a book half a star, I would have. I read this for a college class. This book is awful. First off, the entire tone is extremely condescending. I felt as if I were reading a book directed at second-graders, not preteens and teens. I think teens will be annoyed by the needless repetition of some things, the tone and the poor organization. The book looks nice enough to glance through, with side bars and quotes from cases, but it needed a better editor. What’s worse are t [...]

    2. Five million teens were reported abused in the year 2000; an estimated 1,200 died from some form of abuse or neglect. These horrifically high numbers indicate this is a self-help book for all teens to use as a guide to get safe, or how to help someone they know get out of an abusive situation, be it sexual, physical, emotional, or plain neglect.Psychologist and counselor Deanna Pledge clearly defines each type of abuse, including abuse by peers, and follows up with a question and answer section. 3. Although written for teenagers, much in this book would also apply to adults who find themselves the target of workplace bullying, as happened to me at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. I made a page or two of notes and may refer to this again. Books like this consistently affirm my ongoing response to those in management who knew that I was the target of a bully, knew that I was being injured, and not only did nothing about, but actually joined in the abuse.

    4. I've read several adult books on abuse to understand the abuser and what I, the abused am going through and can do. I found this a very comprehensive direct book and took many notes. I also looked on the library website for the sister books, Struggle to be Strong, and Everyday counts. I found this book direct, succinct and wish I had found it sooner.
