    1. This could be my favorite book of 2018 no matter what I read moving forward. This is the book you recommend to a friend when they say to you, " I need a good page turner". It is full of mystery, romance and drama. It captures you from page one and never lets you down. Of course until you finish the book and you want to read more. Don't try to explain to people what it is about just simply tell them to trust you. I do advise readers to pay attention to every character no matter how insignificant [...]

    2. This book had so many elements that worked well together and made it a book that I stayed up late to finish! There is a unique setting on an island where the class system unfortunately plays a role as we see the residents navigate summers with visitors. There is also romance (more than I expected, but it was well done) and most importantly a mystery. At times I was unsure why the author was writing about a character, but all of her words, and descriptions of island life were intentional and play [...]

    3. Love, mystery and social status are all interwoven in this new tale by Beatriz Williams. The characters come to life as you flip through the pages. The various time periods and the social constraints placed on the main characters also play a very important role. Many of the lives are interwoven and Miranda will uncover all the truths to protect her one true love. I was extremely lucky o receive an advanced reader’s copy of the book which will be coming out in July.

    4. I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book, then blessed with 5 snow days in a row to snuggle up and escape to the coast. I couldn't put it down!!! I love The Summer Wives!! The story takes place on on one of those exclusive New England islands where the wealthy own summer houses and the year-round residents provide care and maintenance of the land, the homes and the people. The book features Miranda Schuyler - a young woman who lost her father in WWII. In 1951 she is introduced [...]

    5. Received this advance copy in return for a survey response. Wasn't sure what to expect but it sounded interesting. I ended up really enjoying the story. I liked the 3 different stories in different time periods. You got some of the answers in the later time period narratives, but didn't know how the answers had evolved. way of tantalizing the reader with just enough information and a few twists I didn't see coming. Clever way to tie the stories of multiple generations together. It was an easy re [...]

    6. YEP. Beatriz Williams delivers again with a great historical novel that delivers mystery, intrigue, romance, and a dual perspective narrative-- everything readers have come to expect from her novels. Miranda Schuyler's mother marries the immensely wealthy Hugh Fisher and brings her to the elite world of Winthrop Island off the coast of New York. Miranda is thrown into a new world, both simultaneously attracted to and disturbed by its wealth, power, and intrigue. There, she finds herself drawn to [...]

    7. First, a huge thank you to for the advance reader edition of this book, which I won through a giveaway. This is the first of Beatriz Williams' books I have read. It won't be the last. I really enjoyed the way the stories wove together, past and present. I really appreciated that I didn't see some of the major twists and revelations coming. Overall, a really good book and I look forward to reading more of Williams' work.

    8. With a sophisticated scalpel, Beatriz Williams dissects long-held passion, prejudice, and mistrust lurking in an insular (did I mention the book takes place on an island?) community with secrets that go back for generations. Pour yourself a gin and tonic, and don’t rush this ravishing novel by New England storytelling’s reigning queen. Set in the 50s and 60s, THE SUMMER WIVES offers profound relevance for today’s times, As we ask ourselves, who belongs here and who doesn’t?

    9. Thanks Carrie for letting me read your ARC from !! This was probably my least favorite BW book, but I still give it 4 stars. She always writes a compelling story.

    10. This another Beatriz William's book about the very rich, but it is also my favorite so far. The story jumps around in time between 1930, 1951 and 1969 as we gradually get the soap opera-ish complications and mysteries in the life of a famous movie star, her family and true love. It does make the lives of the rich seem shallow and useless for those who haven't figured out a way to contribute anything, and, like the other books by Williams that I have read, the characters are mostly unlikeable. Bu [...]

    11. In the summer of 1951, 18 year old Miranda arrives on Winthrop Island for the wedding of her mother and the very wealthy Hugh Fisher. Winthrop Island is divided into the elite, patrician summer folk, and the fishermen or domestic help. THE SUMMER WIVES uses this setting to deliver mystery, romance, passion and murder when Miranda begins to fall for the son of a fisherman. I loved reading this advanced readers edition which will make a fabulous summer read! I received this novel for an honest opi [...]

    12. I was excited to receive an ARC of Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams. I have not read this author before, but my love of historical fiction and the brief description of the book lead me to believe I would enjoy it, and I was not wrong. This is the type of book you want to stow away for a long afternoon and immerse yourself in the experience. The scenery and the wide cast of characters makes you feel as if you are there, among the elite, wearing pretty summer dresses, dining at the club and lookin [...]

    13. Miranda Schuyler has arrived on Winthrop Island in the summer of 1951. Her mother is set to marry Hugh Fisher, and after the wedding she will be spending the summer in his home with her new stepsister, Isobel. Miranda soon realizes there are two types of people on the island, the wealthy who come to the island to stay in their vacation homes and dine at the country club, and the working class make ends meet by catering to the rich. As Isobel shows her around the island, Miranda is drawn to Josep [...]

    14. SUMMER WIVES by Beatriz Williams What a great book! I can’t wait to read another book by her. I loved her characters’ development. There was always a hint to what was coming but you had to wait until the next section! I usually don’t like when they go from one age to another and Beatriz handled it beautifully. Some of the characters in the story were: Miranda and her step sister Isobel, who loved each other but didn’t always like each other. Joseph and Clay were woven thru out the book a [...]

    15. I received an advanced copy of this book as a promotion from Harper Collins publishers. I was very excited, as I have never received advance copies before. The author hints at a big event by switching back and forth between time periods. The book starts off in 1969, but you quickly learn that the real action happened in 1951 with occasional flashbacks to the early 1940s, where the foundation for the plot was laid. I must confess that I got a touch confused at the first time change, but I kept re [...]

    16. Life on Winthrop Island is divided between the people that live and work there year round and the ‘Families’, rich summer people, and the 2 groups are not supposed to socialize. This is the story of what happens when they do socialize and it is a tragedy for several generations. Told over the course of 3 summers; 1930, 1951, and 1969 it tells the tale of 2 very different women who break the island rule. Miranda has only been on Winthrop Island twice in her life, the Summer of 1951 when her m [...]

    17. WOW what a book! For the second time this year I have had the honor of reading an early release and they have both knocked it out of the park. This is my first book by Beatriz Williams and trust me I will be reading more. I have a new author.Summer Wives takes place on Winthrop Island. There are two main time periods, early 1950’s and late 1969. This very private island has to two classes of people. The ones that live there year around and make the island run then there the families that comes [...]

    18. Sometimes a reviewer raves that a book is movie worthy yes, that would be true for this one; but I hope not. The way this author writes is too special to be missed, she woos the reader into the story with a cadence that has your full attention to continue reading even when you fear you know what's coming. I received this advanced readers copy from the publisher for my opinion, this book will be released soon and is not to be missed. "The Summer Wives" excels not only for it's story but also for [...]

    19. I was fortunate to receive an advanced reader's edition thru HarperCollins. I have read a few of Beatriz Williams books so was anticipating a good read. This book takes place in an island off of Connecticut shores and is based on the year-round inhabitants and the summer only rich elite. The story revolves around Miranda whose mother marries into the Fisher family. It holds intrigue, romance, and suspense. I enjoyed the book however I felt that it was predictable and had gaps in the story. Some [...]

    20. Was lucky to receive an advanced copy of this book from Harper Collins. This is a story about class and social standing as it pertains to the summer residents on a little exclusive and elite island off the coast of New York. The story is told from the 30's, 50's and 60's . Miranda is the main character. Her widowed mother marries a very rich man who owns an estate on this island. While they are away on their honeymoon, Miranda is left with her step-sister to learn about the island and how the ri [...]

    21. After receiving this book for an early preview through Harper Collins Publishers' Page Turners program, I am thrilled to say this book shares so much with us.Drama, mystery, new friends, love, and best of all a story that pulls us in.So much so that we are there within the story. I could smell the ocean and feel the emotions of those this story shares with us. This is a book that after the last page is turned, you need to sit and savor the story, feel the smile spread over your face as you rub y [...]

    22. What a delight! This is my first Beatriz Williams book and I really liked it. Historical fiction and romance usually aren’t my thing but I do like some mystery so I thought I would give this story a go. I was not disappointed. I had some difficulty in the beginning keeping straight who was who but once I got used to all the characters, I totally enjoyed the story and was always excited to pick the book back up and jump back in. Described as an “electrifying postwar fable of love, class, powe [...]

    23. This was the first book I have read by Beatriz Williams. The story line kept me interested and I was surprised by the ending. The book gives a very good look into the secluded life of the wealthy summering at "their" island and the year round people who lead regular lives but keep the secrets of the summer people as it is in their best interests. Ms Williams weaves a tale that keeps you reading and trying to second guess who could have killed the patriarch of the family. I will read more of her [...]

    24. I was not able to put this down once I started earnestly reading ittely one of my favorite books EVER. If you are looking for suspense, romance, dramais book has it all. Appearances can be deceiving and the smallest details can matter the most. The characters were not who they appeared to be on the surface. This is my first Beatriz Williams novel and I will be reading many more of her books. I was fortunate to receive this book as an Advance Readers Edition through William Morrow.

    25. The Summer Wives is part historical, part romance, part mystery. It is a perfect combination to keep the readers interest. The story unfolds in three different years, 1930, 1951, and 1969 in a small New England island community. The events started in 1930 has ties to the subsequent years. The story unfolds and moves quickly. I really enjoyed this book. A great summer read for any season.Thank you William Morrow for providing me a copy of this book. The review reflects my honest opinion.

    26. Williams manages to successfully combine mystery, historical fiction and very defined characters and setting to equal a good read. Miranda returns to the island where social status still holds sway. A crime occurring years earlier comes to the forefront as Joseph, the alleged criminal, has escaped from prison and presumed on his way to the island. Isobel, Miranda’s half sister, has secrets of her own, which impact many of Miranda’s misperceptions. Twists, turns and a race to the truth, I rec [...]

    27. This book really kept my attention right from the start. From the setting on the elite Winthrop Island to the characters consisting of the wealthy summer inhabitants to the year-round residents this book had romance, mystery, and suspense. Beatriz did a great job of switching between time periods and characters to slowly piece together what lead up to the current time. I really liked Miranda, the main character - her reasons for returning to the island after a long time away were heartbreaking a [...]

    28. I received an advanced reader's edition for my honest review. This is the first book I have read by Beatriz Williams, and it will not be the last! If you are looking for a page turner you won't be able to put down, this is the book for you. The characters come together in such an interweaving way, with passion, and devotion for all who occupy Winthrop Island. As you bounce from decade to decade you follow Miranda and the story surrounding not one but two fateful evenings. A must read for anyone [...]
