    1. 5 Stars to this Romantic Rent-boy Thriller ~ Second Edition ReviewThis is my first story by author Rick R. Reed and I can definitely tell you - I will read more! This story has a lot going on in it, and I have to wonder if I didn't miss little innuendos here and there - either way, I loved the story. I read it all in one sitting, couldn't stop -- had to know what was going to happen. I was surprised all the way to the end! Our MC are Wren and Rufus, yes unusual names but they both find themselve [...]

    2. 'A Dangerous Game' is a re-release of the book 'Rent' by Rick R. Reed and having never read this story under it's original title I can truthfully say I have no idea if there are any other changes. I don't remember the last time that I read a book with an MC that I just didn't warm up to at all. I tried but nope, at the end of the day Wren was just not my cuppa'. Which made for one big, unfixable disconnect when it came to this story. I liked the premise of the story a lot! it held a strong appea [...]

    3. RentBy Rick R ReedReviewed by Jon MichaelsenThe tag line for Rent by Rick R. Reed reads, “Sex can be a dangerous business. So can love…”I could not have penned a better one-line mark to espouse the appeal of this new sexy romance thriller if I tried. Reed has returned with the release of his latest in fine form, returning to the murder-mystery, thriller genre fans have loved in his previous novels IM, Tricks, Obsessed, Crime Scene and Reckless, to name a few.Readers of Reed’s earlier nov [...]

    4. I liked this book but I wish I could say I loved itI loved the idea of the story but for me there were just too many things that stopped me from loving it. Maybe the easiest way to write this review for me is to list what I liked and what didn’t work for me.I liked Wren I thought he was a great character and I found myself wanting to reach out and grab him and protect him. That was a constant throughout the whole book.I eventually loved Rufus but when I was first introduced to him I didn’t k [...]

    5. I am not sure how to rate or review this book. The pretty cover sucked me in and the promise of a rent boy redemption sealed the deal but what I got was a mixed bag of… meh.So the story is told from the POV of Wren who we meet after he is let go from his job and stops by Tricks, a local gay club to drown his sorrows. When his wallet comes up missing, an older man who fits the total image of a preppy boy from the 80’s steps in and buys Wren a drink and offers him a job. Wren doesn’t want to [...]

    6. 4.25 stars. "A Dangerous Game" is a sequel of sorts to Reed's earlier novel Tricks where we met Sean and Arliss, a dancer at Tricks bar in Boystown. Wren meets Davidson Chillingsworth at Tricks and is offered an escort job at A' Louer (which Chillingsworth tells Wren means 'to connect, to find love' when in fact it means 'for rent'). Despite some serious misgivings, Wren agrees Wren thought he should have felt some sort of relief. Instead it felt as though a trap had just snapped shut. Wren's f [...]

    7. 2.5 HeartsA Copy was provided in exchange for an honest review I’m sad. This didn’t work for me, even though I really wanted it to. I’ve fallen in love with Mr. Reed’s writing style, and subject choices, but this completely missed the mark for me.Wren is down on his luck, and while drowning his sorrows at Trick’s, a gay strip club, he meets a man who ‘sells love’. This predator is determined to get Wren on his payroll, and spins the job as some sort of love connection escort servic [...]

    8. 3.5 starsWren has lived his life in near poverty but always had his mother to fall back on--she was his security. The day he loses his job he also finds out that his mom has been given the opportunity to move out and into her own small apartment as a perk of her promotion at work. Suddenly Wren finds himself homeless, nearly broke and desperate enough to move in with his ex boyfriend, Devon--a smarmy sex addict. After a disastrous first night with his ex, Wren realizes he has to move on--and the [...]

    9. Sex can be a risky business when it becomes a way to earn a living, and as this story shows, there is more than one reason things can go wrong. ‘A Dangerous Game’ sneaked up on me with its slow and relatively innocuous start into what I believed to be a young man’s slide into a life he never wanted. It is that, showing Wren’s desperation and lack of options as he begins to consider becoming an escort, but then the hints accumulate and it slowly changes into a murder mystery. The plot is [...]

    10. Wren has just found himself without a job , he goes to Tricks to unwind before going home and finds his wallet gone as well. He is approached by a man that offers him a ticket to paradisee perfect job, a home and lots of money plus the chance to find love. When Wren gets home he finds the day worsehis mom has been offered a promotion that includes an apartment not big enough for two. After many attempts to find a place to crash and a job Wren breaks down and calls Dave though something just does [...]

    11. Wren is a young man who (At the end of what had already been a bad week) is unlucky enough to meet a man who runs an escort agency. Wren succumbs to the man's proposal and soon learns that the “Sex can be a dangerous business."I was expecting this book to be very centered on the sex for pay business. While that is always there in the background, sex for pay and the issues surrounding that really play a pretty minor role in this story. This is really a story about two guys coming together under [...]

    12. I love this book it is a great combination of love and mystery. I really look forward to reading more books by Rick R. Reed!! I feel that they will be just as good or better. I am also glad to for giving me the book for free.

    13. Well for me this really was just an OK read, which is unusual as I do normally enjoy Rick Reed's stories much more. I can't even say it being (a rerelease of) an earlier story made a difference as I've enjoyed other earlier works too.I did win this in a group of books from DSP (via JoyfullyJay) and it is a plot theme I would consider hard before buying (and in this case probably would not from the blurb).Wren is the down on his luck guy caught between a rock and a hard place, then he leaps into [...]

    14. Wren - a 23 year old customer service representative -- is downing his luck one day. He has been fired from his job, and he wants to drown his sorrows in vodka at a local gay bar. But, when he gets proofed by the bar tender, Wren realizes that his wallet has been stolen. Davidson Chillingsworth, a sleazy scumbag who runs a local escort service, sees Wren as potential fresh meat for his stable of escorts. David is the one who had Wren's wallet stolen and then vouches for him so he can be a hero a [...]

    15. Wren is having a hell of a week and suddenly finds himself unemployed, homeless and with facing a decision to become an escort in order to survive. After making his decision he finds himself immediately thrust in a world of dark secrets where his only refuge is meeting another fellow escort. Rufus is a handsome man who has had success as an escort and his job is to show Wren the ropes of the business he has joined. Wren is immediately attracted to Rufus and his candid ways and he can't help from [...]

    16. My love affair began with the wonderful Rick R. Reed, about 5 years ago, when I read Tricks. Tricks was such a joy to me! I loved it so much because it takes place in my home town and the story had me on the edge of seat. After reading Tricks, I immediately sent Reed a message to let him know how much I enjoyed it. Serious. Fangirl. Moment. Anyway, imagine my delight and surprise when I stumbled upon A Dangerous Game! Imagine my shock and frustration when I discovered this story was published in [...]

    17. This is an excellent sequel to the first book 'Tricks'. I liked this one even more than the first.Rent finds our main character Wren, out of a job, out of luck and nearly down and out having lost the accommodation he shared with his mother. He tries to find solace at 'Tricks' the semi-seedy bar in downtown Chicago. What he does find is an offer to join A'Louer an escort agency with a glamorous facade but a dangerous and dark interior.Surprisingly Wren soon comes to realise that there is more to [...]

    18. This is a book full of suspense from almost the very beginning. The old saying if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is was quoted in this book and I have to say there is no more of a fitting phrase then this for this book. Wren soon finds that that saying is truly correct.Wren in my opinion felt as if he had no options when he took the job as a male escort. But there was two things that came from that job. One : Wren met Rufus and two : after the first gig (which as it turns out was with [...]

    19. A Joyfully Jay review. 3.5 starsA Dangerous Game (formerly released as Rent) by Rick R. Reed had many good moments. Wren discovering Rufus’ story about his addiction was poignant and powerful and perhaps one of the finest character sketches I have ever read. My heart broke for Rufus as I listened to his story as told in first person–with Wren reading it–amazing writing! Then there was Wren’s inner dialogue as he argued with himself about becoming a prostitute–and then after reading abou [...]

    21. At what point is an MC just too naive to be likeable? That was my question about Wren all the way through his story. For the first half of this story, Wren’s feigned innocence, learned helplessness and gullible stupidity had me hating the MC. I found him more likeable and less passive by the second half of the story, but I was never able to fully invest in this character.David Chillingsworth and the whole murder mystery aspect of the story was more interesting to me than the romance, but I gue [...]

    22. redzworld/2016/06 A Dangerous Game by Rick R Reed is a sexy romantic suspense. I loved the character of Wren, young but down on his luck he needs a place to stay and money. He tries everything he can think of from couch surfing to staying with his mom. But nothing is working for him. He gets an offer that seems way too good to be true. He could be an escort, get paid tons and have free rent. All that just for sex with strangers. He doesn't want to but he tries it out. Wren is a good person, he j [...]

    23. I have rather ambivalent feelings about this story of Wren, a guy falling on hard times and who was preyed upon by an unscrupulous escort agency owner. Some of the writing was very good and you could empathise with the characters in the situations they found themselves in, sometimes the writing rambled on - personally I hated the way Wren found out Rufus's life story, not the story but the way the author chose to do it (at great length) so much so that I skim read a lot of this background just t [...]

    24. This turned out to be a whole lot of not what I expected. While I was longing for a good rent boy story, and this one is definitely about rent boys, it goes in a total different direction. There is only one real encounter with a client. The rest is mostly about the mystery and trying to figure out what's going on and who dunnit. So, even though it wasn't what I was hoping for initially, the story was well written and kept me engaged and interested right to the end. Wren is a sweetheart who just [...]

    25. Somewhat enjoyed it in the beginning and then it got worse and worse. Wren was despicable. Imagine someone you've known just for a few hours shuffling through your things, breaking into your computer and reading your personal secrets. But for the author, it's perfectly okay because, wow, Wren is in insta-love with Rufus. insta-love seems a theme here all in all, like with Evan and Dan, too, and what's a little blackmail when they *love* each other. The pacing is weird, too, the book drags unbear [...]

    26. Is it wrong to say I figured out who the killer was when they confronted their first victim. I also figured early on what devious little scheme was too, like in the escort business what other thing you can do to destroy a very professional wealthy private client but well I'm not going to give away spoilers. Although I figured the story out it wasn't much of a mystery, but the romance had a nonsensical aspect to it, but it had some valid key points about addiction. I really enjoyed reading Rufus' [...]
